THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

-

Moses was a man who had some challenges in his life.

He had to run away from Egypt because he had done something silly.

Working on his father-in-law’s farm he saw something strange – a bush which was on fire, but not burning up.

Then he heard a voice speaking from the bush.

It was the voice of God, and He said: “I have a very important job for you. I want you to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let my people go.”

Moses said: “So you want me to go to Pharaoh and just tell him to let the people go? He won’t listen to me.”

God said: “I will be with you”, but Moses replied: “I am no good at speaking in public”.

God was quite angry and he showed Moses His power to prove that He would be with Him.

But still Moses said: “I can’t speak in public.” God said: “Fine – I will send your brother Aaron with you and he will help you.”

At first Pharaoh didn’t let the people go but eventually God worked so that he had to change his mind and the people did leave Egypt.

We think of Moses as somebody special, who did amazing things for God but even he doubted his own ability and needed help from others as well as God.

There are things in life we are good at and there are things that we struggle with or find challenging.

Moses needed his brother and we need others to help and encourage us and like Moses, God is there for us too, encouraging us and providing the support that we need.

If we trust wholly in him and listen to him, he will help us to do almost anything and we will be able to achieve incredible things in his strength just as Moses did.

Take time this week to give thanks for the people in our lives who have helped us to be better at the things we are good at and for those who have helped us when we couldn’t do something ourselves or needed that little bit extra encouragement.
