MSP hits outattrain problems

-

A list MSP has again raised the issue of Scotrail performance with Transport Secretary Michael Matheson.

James Kelly raised the issue during general questions in the Scottish Parliament recently, and highlighted the poor standard of service commuters in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area face.

The Glasgow MSP also called for a review into the current complex system used by Scotrail for passengers to claim compensation.

The latest figures released by Scotrail have shown that throughout April almost 50 per cent of trains did not arrive on time into Glasgow Central Low Level station, the main station on the route used by commuters through Rutherglen.

The Labour MSP said: “Time and time again I am raising this issue with the Transport Secretary, yet commuters are still not seeing any improvement in their service.

“People are rightly wondering how long they are going to have to continue paying rip-off rail fares for a service that continually fails them – and even worse they have to jump through hoops to claim back compensation.”

“We are becoming far too used to our trains being cancelled or delayed for long periods of time, especially in this area – commuters deserve better.

“Scotrail and the Scottish Government need to work together and get their act together to improve the performance of this failing franchise.”
