Six talented locals are set to swap their day jobs for life on stage, as they play key roles in a new musical.

The sextet are all involved in Evita, which will be performed at Rutherglen Town Hall from Tuesday, June 11 to Saturday, June 15.

Michelle Lynch, Vanessa Sedgwick, Graeme Macaskill, Monika Uboreviciute, Naomi Wylie and Erin Wilson are among a 30-strong cast in the adaptation by Windmill Productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical, which tells the story of Eva Peron’s rise to sainthood in Argentina.

The Tony award-winning musical was first premerired in DATE and includes well-known songs such as Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Oh What a Circus, Buenos Aires and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.

Graeme, from Rutherglen, said: “I’m thrilled to be part of this fantastic production of Evita. I run my own hairdressing business, but I believe you have to frequently revisit your hobbies and interests, which is why in my spare time I go back to my love of acting and performing.”

The production is being directed by Alan C Jones, who has directed well over 100 shows in Scotland, and he is looking forward to bringing the show to the town hall.

He said: “This is one of the few shows I have never had the opportunity to direct before and I’m looking forward to see our talented cast performing it in Rutherglen Town Hall.

“This excellent venue is very different from other theatres and provides an intimate venue for Evita which is a big show in every other sense.

“With a three- level set and a nine-piece orchestra, there’s a lot to squeeze in.”

Set in Argentina between 1934 and 1952, the musical follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as wife of military leaderturned-president Juan Peron, the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33.
