Cancer patient’s thanks for PPI payout advice

A Cambuslang man has thanked the company that fought his corner and recouped a substantial sum of money for him as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

Jim McClymont received the payout after a bank missold him insurance for financial products.

The 66 year-old was persuaded to start the Payment Protection Insurance claim by fellow Cambuslang man Thomas Triano whose company McGinness Associates supports people in consumer disputes.

And the retired widower is relieved he did as he received his payment just a few months later.

Jim told the Reformer: “It was Tom that I dealt with mostly and he was very supportive and would phone me up and keep me updated.

“They gave me a breakdown of their costs and what was involved and I was delighted.

“I got money returned to me and it’s money I didn’t know I had. It’s a fantastic bonus.”

The payout has been timely for Jim, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer four years ago. It has since spread to his lungs and spine.

He recognises the financial burden placed on cancer sufferers who are undergoing treatment.

He regularly travels to the Beatson Oncology Centre in the west end of Glasgow.

The father of three said: “As I am taking part in trials for a cancer treatment, they pay for my transport to hospital.

“But prior to that I was getting chemotherapy and CT scans and I had to pay for fuel every day and that certainly wasn’t cheap. “This money certainly helps.” Jim took early retirement after working in distribution with supermarkets for 29 years, spending the last few years with his “wonderful children” and two-year-old granddaughter who he says “lights up my life”.

He was encouraged to contact Thomas at McGinness Associates after learning that friend Alex Black had received support for a PPI claim and also enjoyed a successful return.

Alex went on to share his experience with locals on the All About Cambuslang Facebook page, with hundreds now receiving support from the Sauchiehall Street-based business.

Thomas said: “When I heard about Jim’s PPI claim I was over the moon.

“I couldn’t have been happier as it is always great to hear that we have helped someone in the local community, especially someone who is going through what he is going through. Nothing made me feel better then knowing that I helped Jim in a very difficult time in his life.”

McGinness Associates is a firm of accountants and business advisors which specialises in helping vulnerable consumers, along with people who have been through some sort of formal debt solution, to recoup money they are entitled to.

It will support people with PPI enquiries up until the deadline to submit claims comes into force on August 31.
