A talented Rutherglen songstress, well known on the Scottish live music circuit, was specially picked to perform at Glasgow’s newest music venue last week.

Performing under her stage name of Sadie Marie, 23-year-old Amanda Bogel, originally from Law but now staying in the Royal Burgh, was chosen for the showcase gig to highlight the versatility of the recently-opened Room 2 in Nelson Mandela Place in the city.

Following her sterling performance to a crowd of club and gig promoters she explained the reason behind the alter ego, saying : “I’ve performed a lot in and around the Wishaw area under my own name playing cover songs, so I just decided I needed a change of persona for when I’m performing my own material.”

The folk and country singer points to the likes of Janis Joplin, Neil Young, the Doors, First Aid Kit and the Black Keys as her musical inspirations.

Sadie Marie was part of a bill that included solo vocalist Lorin, sixpiece band Quiche, and Afro-pop and rap artist MC Sean Focus.

And the singer-songwriter’s plugged-in acoustic set sounded crystal clear through the venue’s unique sound system.

According to Room 2 owner Dario Bernardi, who is also the man behind the long-established La Cheetah nightclub, the music rig is the first of its kind in Europe.

It is able to switch quickly and seamlessly from live music to accommodate DJ sets with pounding bass beats.

The sound system is also complimented by a state of the art visual experience.

Graeme McAuslane, who runs Hijacked Records, the independent label which last year released Sadie Marie’s single Lonely Lover, said: “Sadie Marie was an ideal choice for this, she sounded superb.

“Room 2 is a welcome addition on the live music scene for musicians and will interest club promoters too.”

You can catch Sadie Marie live at Oran Mor in Glasgow on August 24.
