A Toryglen communityled environmental charity will be able to feed and entertain children over the October holidays, thanks to a grant from a local superstore.

Asda Toryglen has donated £413 to Urban Roots through its Asda Foundation Healthy Holiday Fund.

The grant will enable Urban Roots to run its activities for children over the October school week and help to provide access to hot and nutritious food during the break.

Urban Roots’after school clubs and‘Into the Woods’holiday programmes run in the charity’s community gardens, promoting the great outdoors and supporting children to play and learn outside.

The Great Grub Club programme has evolved to include Zoom cookery courses, allowing families to cook together and produce healthy and tasty meals. During normal times, the club also offers six-week cookery courses, community meals, drop-in weekly cookery clubs and provision for REHIS qualifications.

Asda Toryglen community champion Elizabeth Arbuckle handed over the cheque and said:“We are just delighted to be able to support Urban Roots’ October Week project with the Healthy Holiday Grant.

“We know that families will be finding it difficult to continue to entertain children over the holidays and, given what’s happened over the last few months, some will be finding the cost of catering for their children a challenge.

“So, we hope that this Asda Foundation Healthy Holiday Grant will help ease the pressure.
