Road rage after litter louts block off street

- JONATHAN GEDDES

Cambuslang residents are being asked to help identify selfish flytippers that dumped a lorry load of rubbish on a Cambuslang road – and prevented anyone accessing it.

South Lanarkshire Council is appealing for help after Hallside Road was left blocked off because of the selfish actions on Thursday, August 20.

The council received more than 40 complaints following the incident, which is just the latest to blight the area in recent months.

The local authority has released an image of a truck they believe is connected to the flytipping.

Its head of fleet and environmental services, Shirley Clelland, said: “Although any instances of flytipping are of course unacceptable, this one had potentially serious consequences as the road being blocked presented a real danger to road users.

“I would ask anyone with any information to get in touch with us as soon as possible. This type of behaviour shows a complete disregard to the residents of Cambuslang and indeed anyone who may have been using Hallside Road on the day in question.

“Please also do not hesitate to get in touch to report any other instances of flytipping on the above number, and if you have any information that can help us catch the culprits, even better. There is no excuse for flytipping.”

The Reformer has regularly reported this year on flytipping throughout Cambuslang, with the problem steadily increasing during the lockdown.

We told how streets such as Gilbertfield Road and Cambuslang Road were being filled with rubbish back in April.

Last month saw Manse Brae unable to be accessed one night, due to the amount of debris strewn across it.

Meanwhile, the Reformer has backed the Don’t Trash Our Future initiative – a nationwide campaign aimed at stamping out littering.

Anyone who may recognise the small lorry in the picture is being asked to contact the police on 101 or the council’s environmental services on 0303 123 1015.
