BullyWee earn historic Jags victory

-

Clyde scorer Ally Love has revealed Danny Lennon read out good luck messages from fans to inspire their win over Partick Thistle.

Love’s second half strike earned The Bully Wee their first derby day win over The Jags since 2007.

However, with fans at home watching the League One opener online, Love opened up on Lennon’s pre-match motivator.

He said:“It was a great league start and our first league win, but more importantly it’s a derby win.

“It’s three points on the board and the first derby win of the season. We knew how important it was to the club, the fans and everybody as a whole.

“It’s strange not having the fans there to celebrate and have them behind you, but we knew as long as we set the tempo on the day we would create our own atmposphere.

“Everybody watching from home was behind us and the gaffer read a message out before the game about how much it meant to the fans at home.

“I’ve scored a few important goals for the club and long may that continue. It’s for the fans and the players in that dressing room though.

“I knew how hard everyone has worked during the lockdown for pre-season. Every boy in that dressing room deserves it.

“I don’t think Thistle would disagree but 1-0 flattered them.

“No disrespect to Partick Thistle they are good side and full-time, but if it was two or three towards the end nobody would have batted an eyelid.”

Delighted gaffer Danny Lennon felt the result was reward for the hard work in pre-season, adding: “First and foremost it’s three points against your local rivals and probably the league favourites, in my opinion.

“It’s a derby that has been 10 years overdue. It’s fantastic and I thought it was an overall fantastic performance.

“The players have worked extremely hard in the close season. You could see the experience we have and the energy of the younger players.

“Credit to Partick Thistle, they are a good quality side, you could see where their strengths were but I thought we contained that.”

Goal hero Love is now targeting back-to-back wins as The Bully Wee gear up for a trip to Dumbarton this weekend.

He went on:“We have our own expectations going into the season and where we feel like we should be.

“It’s human nature that everyone thinks the full-time teams will win the league but we showed we are a match for the favourites for the league and now look to build on that.”
