Golden celebrations
South Lanarkshire Council is looking to find couples who enjoyed a golden moment last year.
They are asking people who celebrated a golden wedding to get in touch with them.
Every year the Provosts of South and North Lanarkshire Councils jointly host an annual celebration for couples who celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately the global pandemic meant this couldn’t go ahead as normal last year, but the local authority still want to commemorate couples who celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2020 by arranging to send a gift.
South Lanarkshire Provost Ian McAllan said:“The Golden Wedding celebrations are always a highlight of my year and it is an absolute privilege to attend the event.
“Hearing the stories of how couples met and the ups and downs of their married life is always a joy, and the atmosphere created make it a thoroughly enjoyable occasion for everyone. The events are always very well attended but, of course, it was just not possible for it to go ahead last year because of the restrictions in place due to Covid-19.
“However, I hope that as many couples as possible will get in touch with us to allow us the opportunity to send them a small token to commemorate such a wonderful milestone.
“We appreciate this past year has been difficult for everyone and look forward to better days ahead.”
