BRUTAL SWORD FIGHT TERROR
Pair took to street wielding weapons
Police are still hunting the man responsible for a brutal sword fight that was filmed by shocked residents in Rutherglen.
A week on from the horror attack, police are still searching for the thug who slashed James Quinn in Greenhill Road last
Tuesday. Quinn, who was left with serious face and hand injuries in the rammy that took place in front of scores of horrified residents, was previously jailed for attempted murder.
The 30-year-old was sentenced to eight years at the High Court in Glasgow in 2009 for trying to kill Gary Walker, 33, in a gang knife attack. A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Reformer enquiries are ongoing.
They said: “Officers are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to this incident.”
A Rutherglen sword fight victim has shared a horrific image of his facial injuries following an attack last week.
James Quinn took the selfie at Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being brutally assaulted on a Rutherglen street on Tuesday, (March 9)
The 30-year-old showed the sickening scar running down the centre of his face while standing in a hospital gown with a bandaged arm.
Quinn, 30, is feared to have also lost fingers on his right hand and his foe was treated for a massive wound in his back.
A source said: “Quinn sent the picture out on his social media to tell people he was not badly hurt in the fight. It was circulated around loads of people in Rutherglen.
“There will be repercussions to this. It’s a feud that has been going on and on and there will be more violence.”
It comes after the Reformer published footage of the shocking incident on Thursday showing Quinn’s attacker loudly and repeatedly baiting him, challenging him to “come out to play”.
Quinn was forced to seek hospital treatment after being injured during the altercation, which unfolded on Greenhill Road as residents looked on.
The vicious thug was previously jailed for eight years at the High Court in Glasgow in 2009 for trying to kill Gary Walker, 33, in a gang knife attack.
Video of the sword fight shows a man approaching a property in Greenhill Road then demanding that Quinn comes out to face him.
Brandishing a large knife, the man shouts: “Sh***bag, Castlemilk boys in the area. Come out, I’m masel’ ya f***in’ chicken.”
When Quinn comes out, the men take the battle into the middle of the street, swinging the large blades at each other furiously, landing potentially deadly blows.
The original attacker then runs off towards Mill Road and Quinn goes into his flat.
One local source, told our sister paper, the Daily Record:“Both of these guys are well-known locally. The fight was terrifying and it played out in front of about 100 flats.
“They made such a racket that everybody ran to their windows for a ringside seat. It’s a miracle that neither of them was killed.”
Police have appealed for witnesses.
Detective Constable Jennifer Thirtle, of Cambuslang Police Station, told the Reformer: “Our inquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance around 9pm on Tuesday to get in touch.
“In addition, we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously or loitering in the area around Greenhill Road before the incident took place.”
