Nisbet opens up on failed Brum move
Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet has opened up on a failed move to Birmingham City and his Scotland squad hopes.
The 24-year-old, from Cambuslang, grabbed his first goal for the Hibees since handing in a transfer request in January when he netted in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ross County.
Nisbet joined the capital club in the summer from Dunfermline and looked destined for a big money move down south when City tabled a £3 million offer.
However, Hibs rejected the English Championship side’s advances and even when Nisbet tried to force through a move, the Hibs hierarchy wouldn’t budge.
Their prize asset was left gutted when the move broke down, but has put that disappointment behind him to rediscover his scoring touch and boosting their hopes of landing third spot in the Premiership.
And, speaking ahead of his Scotland call-up yesterday, he told how he hoped he’d done enough to make the squad for a World Cup qualifying triple-header later this month.
The former Trinity High School pupil said:“It was obviously a massive opportunity for me to go but I love the club, I get on really well with the gaffer and I have a great relationship with everyone.
“As soon as the window closed it was in the past and my full focus and attitude was spot on.
“I was there for the boys, I worked hard in training and worked hard when I got on the pitch.
“For us now it’s about getting into Europe and scoring as many goals as I can for Hibs between now and the end of the season.
“One of my goals at the start of the season was to get in the Scotland squad.
“I am back playing and scoring. I have every chance.”
Nisbet insists he is focused on Hibs and is happy with his current deal at Easter Road.
The hitman, who netted his 14th goal of the season and first strike in eight games, added:“Of course it’s flattering when any team tries to buy you but I am happy at Hibs.
“The club has done a lot for me, I have done a lot for the club, we have a great relationship.”
