Shoppers can see right into my home

Mum hits out at Morrisons for felling nearby trees

- BY JONATHAN GEDDES

A mum has blasted supermarket giant Morrisons, after it chopped down trees near her home – claiming it leaves shoppers with a view straight into her home.

Tracey Geddes’ home backs on to the Cambuslang store’s car park, where a number of trees used to provide an additional, natural barrier to nearby properties on Morriston Park Drive.

However, Morrisons recently chopped down the trees without, Mrs Geddes claims, giving her any prior warning.

Now, despite the remaining dividing fence, she feels her privacy has been affected by the move, saying shoppers are able to look right into her home.

Morrisons insist the decision to cut the trees was made in response to complaints from locals, but did not confirm which street the complaints had come from.

Mrs Geddes said: “There was always a clear boundary there, with the trees.

“A wee while back there was an issue with how high the trees had gotten and they were trimmed down, which was fine. But now they’ve just completely cut them away.

“There was never any notice there were planning to do this, and I think Morrisons at the very least could have let us know they were planning it. I know the fence is there, but we suddenly feel exposed because there are shoppers going past on the other side and they can just see right in now.

“I’ve had a few folk joke with me that they can see me doing the dishes and things like that, but I feel uncomfortable about it.

“I’ve young kids and I don’t like how people passing by can loiter about and see right in.

“We’ve already had folk hanging around [where the trees were previously] at night. I would like Morrisons to plant a few trees that can grow and put a little shelter in there.

“It doesn’t need to be the same amount as before, just something so we aren’t so exposed.”

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We cut back the trees as part of a responsible maintenance plan after receiving several complaints from neighbours about the trees blocking light and overhanging in their gardens.”
