Games mounting up for Camby

-

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell is hoping their games in hand can work in their favour at the business end of the season after their clash with Kilwinning Rangers was called off.

The Somervell Park side remain bottom of the West of Scotland Premier Division but have three games in hand over nearest rivals Petershill, who sit two points in front.

A daunting trip to fourth-place Clydebank awaits this Saturday and Campbell said: “We’ve got Clydebank away on Saturday, which is another tough game for us, but of all the things we can affect, the weather just kills it at this time of year.

“Hopefully the games in hand, and at home, can give us an advantage later on.

“You just try to do the best you can, and if we can get as many home games as we can together we can try and claw something back, but we’re up against it.”

Campbell was gutted to see another game beaten by the weather this season and added: “It has been grim all week. I got up on Saturday morning and it looked relatively mild compared to what it’s been all week, but there was a right heavy frost for almost seven days and the park was frozen solid.

“The SFA asked us to try and sort it out on Friday by about lunchtime and let them know, but we had a look at it and there was no way it was playable.

“We’ve got to look after the players’ safety, especially when it has been holding a certain amount of water and then it’s frozen. If that thaws, then it’s too soft so we just had to call it.

“I’d have liked the game to have been on to help get us up and running again.”
