Cambyboss stillbelieves afterdefeat

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says Arthurlie beating giant-killing Darvel gives them hope in theWest of Scotland Premier Division.

Saturday’s opponents defeating a Darvel side that famously knocked Premiership giants Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup last midweek tells Campbell there are no givens at that level, but knows Camby will need to be on top form to cause upsets.

Cambuslang lost 2-0 to Clydebank on Saturday to stay at the bottom of the table, but Campbell says they were simply out-played, and only had two subs available.

He said:“You look at Arthurlie’s result against Darvel, which is fantastic and shows you that if you turn up on the day and your attitude is right, you will put yourself in a position to get a result.

“We’re going to need to be all over that game in particular, but there are no givens in this game – everybody has turned up all sorts of results.

“Darvel did exceptionally well against Aberdeen, who were poor on the night, but they still went about their business professionally and got the job done.

“Arthurlie then turned up and said we’re not going to stand off and let them play, they’ve got the result, and anything is possible.

“We just need to get the head up, get on with it, and do the best we can with what we’ve got.

“We’ve had a couple of decent results and we’ve been really close in three or four of the games as well, so we’ve never been a mile off it.”

Camby didn’t have their troubles to seek with a depleted squad, but Campbell says that’s just where they are after back-to-back defeats.

He added:“We competed well, as we do, but lost a goal in the first haf to a decent finish, to be fair.

“It was a wee bit suspect, where everybody was saying it was offside, but we never got it.

“We were working hard, competing well, weren’t too far off the game at all, but then had to take a couple of the boys off and we didn’t have a big squad.

“We only had two subs on Saturday, so we were up against it a wee bit with the changes. We had to move one of our centre-mids to right-back, one of our strikers to centre-mid, and it ended up messing with the flow of the game a bit.

“In the last 10 or 15 minutes we came into the game, started pushing and were unlucky with a couple of wee half-changes, but nothing more than that – we didn’t create nearly enough to win the game.”
