Pryce: Glens require perfect finish

-

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce says his side must win all three of their remaining games just to have a chance of promotion from the West of Scotland First Division.

Glencairn dropped down to third when the dust had settled on Saturday’s games, as Ashfield moved back to second with a 3-0 win over Kilwinning.

Shotts’2-0 win over Petershill moved them to within a point of Glencairn, with four games in hand, and Johnstone Burgh are sixth after their 3-0 win over Renfrew, having played four fewer games.

Shotts hosted Johnstone Burgh last night [Tuesday] as the Reformer went to press, and both are in action again on Thursday evening, before Glencairn welcome Shotts at the Hamish B. Allan Stadium, in the first of a home tripleheader that sees Burgh visit on May 11, and Maybole seven days later.

Pryce said:“A lot of the contenders played on Saturday and they all got good results, and there are games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, so by the time Saturday comes around and Shotts visit us, we’ll know exactly where we are in the division, and what we need to do.

“At the moment we’re still of the opinion that we’re going to need to win the three of our remaining games to stand a chance – that’s the way it is, and that’s the target.

“Our first target is Shotts, and that’s where all our efforts and concentration this week is going to go into, preparing and being ready to hopefully take three points when we play them.

“There are a number of teams involved and they’re all playing each other.

“Whatever results happen during the week will happen, we can’t affect that, we’ve just got to concentrate on Shotts on Saturday, which is our big target, and hopefully we can get a positive result.

“It’s not all in our own hands, but if we win the three games we give ourselves a chance, and that’s really all we wanted.

With a free weekend, Glencairn were able to look over their casualty list, and Pryce says there is good news.

“It looks like we’ll be virtually fully fit by the time Saturday comes,”he said.
