At Giant’s Causeway they spread Gary ‘Mudspeed’ Richardson’s ashes... they then rode on to Portrush to bed down.

The idea to do the charity ride for Clare House Children’s Hospice was conceived when Glenn met Dave Johnson (Too Much Too Young SC) last year. At 9am on Sunday, May 7, the group set off from Liverpool and rode to Penrith, and Monday’s ride was the 140 miles from Penrith to the Stranraer Ferry Port. On Tuesday morning they crossed the Irish Sea. They then travelled from Larne along the picturesque coast road to Ballycastle and then onto the Giant’s Causeway. At Giant’s Causeway they spread Gary ‘Mudspeed’ Richardson’s ashes (formerly of Liverpool SC) they then rode on to Portrush to bed down for the night.

On Wednesday they completed the longest leg of their journey; a 240 mile ride from Portrush to Galway, and on Thursday they travelled east from Galway to Dublin. As Friday morning arrived the riders caught the 8am ferry from Dublin to Holyhead, and then completed the final leg of their ride home.

The ride raised £3050 for Claire House Children’s Hospice. Rhyanna Morris, community fund-raiser for Claire House, said: “It was a wonderful surprise when Glenn approached us explaining that he and his friends were going to complete a charity ride for the hospice. Scootering also had a special place in my heart as my grandpa was a scooterist!”

Donations to Claire House Children’s Hospice can be made at www.clairehouse.org.uk/donate or at Justgiving. Words: Stu Smith
