Subs club success
Hi Dan,
Firstly, congratulations on your initiative to reward ‘loyal subscribers’. As one of the negative ‘retorters’ that took exception to the Tesco bundled free Scootering neck-warmer denied to loyal subscribers, I emphasise it was the principle, not the item that mattered to me. Secondly, many editors often invite, encourage and sometimes rely on, written contributions from the readership to maintain publication. However most, regardless of whether they use the contributions or not, usually acknowledge receipt of the pieces.
I have over the years submitted various photos, scooter related crossword puzzles and other snippets, and apart from my recent letter ‘Is your scooter original’, have never had acknowledgements as 'received'. I accept that editors have a limited time to sift through and select appropriate content, but would it be too much to ask, without comment or commitment to publish, for a simple acknowledgement on receiving any input?
Lastly, a few friends, (also subscribers) and I have noticed the steady improvement in content and presentation of Scootering, which is welcomed. Now the bar has been raised we hope the quality can be maintained. Given the subject matter is somewhat limited I’m surprised the format doesn’t consist of rehashed subjects more. Although as any activity must rely on ‘new blood’ those informative articles will be news to newcomers! A delicate balance indeed. In closing, renewing my subscription and keep up the good work.
Sincerely, Mark Henson
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the letter, and in order… Firstly, I’m glad you are enjoying the new subscriber benefits. Secondly, as editor, I always acknowledge the contributor, unless no name is provided. Any lack of acknowledgement will not occur on my watch. Lastly, there is a surprising amount of both new and old material available; the struggle isn’t sourcing it, the struggle is fitting it all in. Thanks for the letter, and I hope you continue to enjoy the magazine. Regards, Dan
