Scootering

SCOOTER DETAILS

-

Name of scooter and reason: Uncontrollable Soul – named after a lost Oscar Wilde poem. Scooter model: TV200 frame, Li150 engine. Date purchased and cost: Built by owner’s husband from various parts that were ‘kicking around the garage’. No cost as it was a gift from him, but the frame cost him £200 in 1993. Inspiration for project: 1970s rally pictures, my favourite kind, they just look so interesting. Any frame modifications: Frame was purchased as a cut-down 80s frame. Restored back to original. Engine spec: Mugello kit. Crank: GP. Exhaust: Big bore with Ken Cobbin C Tail pipe. Are A there any other unique details that we w have missed: Custom made oil holder h behind legshields. T Top speed and cruising: Husband says it t will sit at 65, but I’ve not had it over o 50mph. Is s the scooter reliable: Yes. It’s never le et me down – ever. Paintwork P and murals done by: My hhusband carried out all the paintwork, inncluding the hand painted lettering – luckily enough he trained as a s ignwriter when he left school. PPaint is old school cellulose paint. Is s there any chrome/other plating: A little, carried out by Karl at Quality Q Chrome, Hull. Overall O cost: Hard to say. The scooter was w built using a frame, engine and parts p that we already had in our possession, p the joys of collecting for decades, d I suppose. My husband prepped, p painted, built and generally did d all the work himself, and reckons th he overall cost was maybe £2000. What W was the hardest part of the project: Letting L my husband have free reign over o the build as it was a present for me and I didn’t want to see it until it was finished. I love it, and wouldn’t change a thing. Well, maybe a standard mudguard on the front. Do you have any advice or tech tips for anyone starting a project: Yes, marry someone who can build you a scooter! Is there anything still to add to the scooter: Just more miles, and maybe a Sidewinder seat. In hindsight, is there anything that you’d have done differently: I’d probably have saved the big bucks for a TV200 engine that would match up with the frame, but prices being what they are, I couldn’t justify spending £2000 to £3000 on one. Maybe one day! Is there anyone you’d like to thank: Just my husband for building me such a wonderful gift.
