Back in 2015 Alan Dews, a friend of one of our founders (Andi Pallet), passed away suddenly from an undetected heart condition aged just 37, which was such a shock and devastating to his family. From this terrible event, Alan’s mum and dad work tirelessly raising funds for the British Heart Foundation. Seeing how Alan’s parents had turned such a terrible moment in their lives into a massive positive, raising funds and supporting others, Andi was inspired and wanted to do something to help. In December 2018 at the City Slickers’ first

AGM he told the story of Alan, and as a result every City Slicker member in the room agreed that we would raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

City Slickers is a relatively new group, founded 15 months ago in the centre of Birmingham. Another founding member, John Shephard, adds: “Our group has been around the scooter, skin and mod scene for years and we have seen great growth with a fantastic bunch of lads. The Midland scooter scene has some fantastic clubs, so once the word got about regarding the charity gig, all the clubs and solo riders were happy to attend and support. On a Sunday afternoon in late April at The Lounge in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, we put on our gig featuring one of the best Jam tribute bands, Jam DRC, with DJs playing ska, Motown and Northern Soul. We had many donations in the form of scooter helmets, limited edition prints and, of course, the odd bottle or two! We had over 400 in attendance and over 100 scooter riders, who raised a staggering £1200 in just a few hours! Here's to the next one... it’s all about the Slick.”
