Sitting at home one Sunday morning not long after Christmas, my phone rang; on the other end was an old friend of mine, Dick Sedgley – the former service manager at the Lambretta Concessionaires, who then later went on to become the manager of Royspeed. The reason he rang me was to tell me that he had finally managed to get his long-awaited book published – and he wanted me to be the first to publicise that fact in print before it became public knowledge. However, because the internet moves faster than magazine print, the news soon got out about this book's release – and indeed, by the time you read this, you should be able to purchase a copy through the LCGB if you're a member.

This book has been a long time coming; Dick showed me the first draft some 10 years ago – and at one point we even discussed serialising it in Classic Scooterist – but for various reasons that never happened.

The result of this is that you have had to wait until 2021 to read his personal story. His book, 60 Year Journey with Lambretta, chronicles Dick's career and his 60-year-long love affair with Lambretta. The paperback book details his early days of working as a mechanic for the Lambretta Concessionaires and progresses through his work career, with Dick delving into the trials and tribulations of all things scooter (mainly Lambretta, of course) and encompasses his expert knowledge and experience in building, repairing and even collecting his prized scooters.

Dick's book is published by Olympia Publishers (ISBN: 978-1-78830-668-3) and is priced at £21.99 (plus postage).
