WIGAN CASINO DJ SEARLING PRAISES JO ANN HAMILTON & THE KEVIN FINGIER COLLECTIVE – SEPTEMBER/ I LOVE WITHOUT A LOVE

-

Acid Jazz subsidiary label Fingier has a brand new release out from Argentinian producer Kevin Fingier. What’s more, it’s a genuine double-sider, with both sides showcasing the superb vocal talents of playwright, actress and singer Jo Ann Hamilton. Jo Ann started singing from the tender age of just seven years old as a member of the Melton Chappel church gospel choir. During the 70s she followed the natural progression of soul music into disco, obsessively, religiously tuning in to Soul Train on the TV every Saturday night. Highlights of her acting career include creating, writing and performing a one-woman show, the subject being Historical Black Women, which put the spotlight on iconic black American women campaigners such as Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. Both sides of this limited edition, brand new, double A-side vinyl single provide an excellent platform to showcase her jazzy vocal style. Legendary Wigan Casino DJ Richard Searling has been championing the tracks on pre-release on his influential radio shows, going on record to say: “Both sides are excellent. Anything you see on this label comes highly recommended by myself.” Which is immense praise indeed, thoroughly warranted too. The debut release on the Fingier imprint was Don’t Wanna Cry No More, featuring Gerri Granger on vocals. Gerri Granger is best remembered and revered in rare soul circles for her haunting Wigan Casino northern soul anthem I Go To Pieces. The label launched in January 2020, with the inaugural release selling out in just 10 days – a feat surpassed with the second Fingier release; The Kevin Fingier Collective-Latin Dynamite/ El Basement sold out in just one week in November 2020. Jo Ann Hamilton is the first vocalist to sign to Fingier Records; her debut release looks to be the first of several original recordings that will be released via the label. It’s a double dose of dancefloor dynamite, with September blending elements of rhythm ‘n’ blues with pounding northern soul, jazzy flavoured flute accentuating Jo Ann’s bluesy/jazzy vocal delivery. On the flip, I Love Without A Love combines elements of 60s rhythm ‘n’ blues, with a large helping of late 60s gritty funky styles plus a healthy shot of popcorn grooves, with brass and tinkling ivories combining with Jo Ann’s powerfully soaring vocals which drive it along perfectly. Don’t snooze or you’ll lose, grab yourself a copy while you still can.
