Scootering

OWNER DETAILS

-

Name: Tony Parkinson.

Job: Printer/Embroiderer.

Scooter club & town: Bigots SC, Preston & District Scooter Alliance.

First interest in scooters: In 1979 when I was leaving school and older friends had them.

First scooter: Vespa 90.

Favourite scooter model: Lambretta GP. Favourite style of custom scooter: Street racers.

First ever rally: Scarborough 1980. How did you get there: Lambretta GP. Any funny stories: Hundreds over the years, but coming back from Scarborough a couple of years ago me and a mate, ‘Tot’, were a little worse for wear. We both fell asleep going over the moors (at near enough the same time); ‘Tot’ went one way and I went the other! Favourite rally: Kelso takes some beating; brilliant ride there and everything’s in one place.

Funniest experience involving scooters: Seeing Adam Kelly broke down on the A6. Helen and I stopped to see if we could help (and knew we couldn’t really).

After taking the piss for about 20 minutes Helen and I set off giving him the customary “See ya later wanker!” As I sped off I came to a a grinding halt 20 yards down the road! Furthest you’ve ever ridden on a scooter: The Somme/Normandy/ Waterloo, not sure which is further. What do you like about rallies: The scooters and the laugh with mates. What do you dislike about rallies: Bullshit snobs.

Favourite Scootering magazine feature: Tales From the Vault.

Your most recommended scooter part or related item: Hydraulic brakes.

Your most recommended scooter security item: A decent chain. Which insurer do you recommend: Carole Nash. Which breakdown company do you recommend: AA.

MMostt uselessl partt you’ve’ ever bbought ht for a scooter: Legshield stadium mirror, couldn’t see anything due to the vibration!

What would make the scene better: Less bullshit snobbery.

Favourite scooter dealer: K2 Customs, Keith Newman’s stuff is bang on every single time. Just Lambretta, Blackpool, Scooter Restorations and Torbay Lambretta. I won’t use any others; 100% every time.
