OWNER DETAILS
Name: Bob Slater.
Scooter club & town: Swindon Incrowd Scooter Club and the Tilehurst Massive.
First interest in scooters: 1967 – it was my only transport.
First scooter: TV175 Series 2 – they weren't cool in 1967.
Favourite style of custom scooter: I like to personalise them, but I'm not really into custom scooters.
First ever rally: Isle of Wight.
How did you get there: Scooter of course – is there any other way?
Favourite rally: IoW, I just love the island, there's always somewhere to see that you haven't been before.
Furthest you’ve ever ridden on a scooter: From Basingstoke to Sheffield to see my grandparents, when I was 16, on my TV175 Series 2. I kept stopping to let it cool down – took ages! I went again the following year on a TV200.
What do you like about rallies: The camaraderie, and rummaging around the parts stalls.
Favourite Scootering magazine feature: I always turn first to Kickstart, I like to see what new bits are out there.
Your most recommended scooter part or related item: A GPS speedo is useful; it just shows you how inaccurate standard speedos are, particularly on old Lambrettas!
Which insurer do you recommend:
I have a multibike policy with Bikesure. When I put the 244 Quattrini in the PX200, they charged me nothing to upgrade the policy. I was impressed with that.
Which breakdown company do you recommend: Luckily, I haven't needed one yet, but I am with the RAC.
Most useless part you’ve ever bought for a scooter: I could list a lot of Far East components that either didn't fit or failed soon after I'd bought them.
What would make the scene better: People should stop bitching about autos. They are generally very good, reliable, and probably the future. And I can think of a lot of cases where someone has started on an auto, and then bought a classic scooter a while later.
Favourite scooter dealer: Target Scooters. Doug knows his stuff on Lambretta and Vespa and has never let me down.
