Scootering

Club’s charity joy despite Secret Affair date clash

November heralded the end of the annual scootering calendar, with it being the customary slot for the All or Nothing Scooter Club Scooterist Charity Night. Clearly it didn’t happen in 2020 as a result of one of our many lockdowns.

Should we? Shouldn’t we? As a club we were keen to continue our fundraising efforts as over the years we have generated more than £60,000 to help support local charities. Our chosen charities for the event were Galanos House, which is our local British Legion care home and Myton Hospice, who we know had been struggling through the pandemic.

A local band from Nuneaton, RudeSix, had been signed up to help provide the entertainment for the evening, with Paul Roberts and Jimi Quinsey behind the wheels of steel.

Ticket sales had been pretty slow, we also had Secret Affair playing in the city the same night and it was very apparent that some of our regulars would be at the Secret Affair gig while other people were still apprehensive about coming out.

Our faith in people was restored with a steady influx of arrivals, with several visitors from Rugby, as well as many of our friends from Cog 2, Birmingham Vespa Club as well as the newly formed CV Collective Scooter and many local scooterists and friends of the club.

Liv and the band gave an amazing performance during their 90-minute tribute, it is plain to see why they are attracting crowds at scooter events and other events up and down the country.

It was great to hear some different versions of traditional familiar 2 Tone and reggae tunes, but these youngsters also blended in many of their own songs such as Wet Wipe Boy, Trip Club, Chelsea and Reality of War to name but a few. I was asked at one point if Amy Winehouse was on stage and after taking a moment to listen and reflect on the performance, I have to admit there was a very strong resemblance, just emphasising the fantastic vocal range of Liv, lead singer of RudeSix.

Paul and Jimi played a variety of tunes for the remainder of the evening, keeping the crowd entertained. On behalf of the All or Nothing Scooter Club, we would like to thank everyone for their support, especially in the current climate.

A figure of just over £500 was generated from the event, which will be shared between two local charities, Galanos House and Myton Hospice.

Thank you to everyone who supported us on the night especially the people who had travelled from Cornwall, Swansea, Birmingham and Rugby as well as all the local people. With special thanks to RudeSix, Paul and Jayne Roberts and Jimi Quinsey,

Roll on February 19, 2022 for our 37th anniversary ‘do’ – tickets now available.
