Simply the best
No matter how good or experienced a rider may be there’s always something to learn and a new motorcycle industry project aims to make the process of improving riding skills accessible to all.
One of our more popular new features includes the riding tips provided by our tame BSSO rider Tom Shaw and it appears that Scootering readers aren’t the only ones to recognise the value of improving their skills. The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), along with a broad range of organisations including road safety and training experts, government departments and respected, associated organisations, has recently launched The Elite Rider Programme. The aims of the initiative are to increase the number of riders undertaking post-test rider training, improving their riding skills to make them better riders and safer on the road.
Across the board, road safety continues to be a major challenge, with 20% of all killed and seriously injured road users being motorcyclists. It’s because of this that the industry and the wider sector have come together to make every effort to improve rider safety. To support the Elite Rider Training Initiative, the Elite Rider Hub is being launched. This platform will be a one-stop shop where riders will be able to find a wealth of information and support to improve their riding skills.
The hub contains information and contact details of the nationally available post-test rider training schemes, with advice for riders and links to book their training. This makes it easier for riders to identify training that’s tailored to their own needs.
The hub will also benefit many road safety professionals and industry colleagues, such as dealers and workshops, who can point riders to the Elite Rider Hub, rather than providing numerous links to different post-test training providers.
Along with enabling riders to improve their own skills, MCIA will continue to pressure the Government to improve infrastructure, create safe road space and ask what can be done to improve the training of other road users. They are also calling for improved awareness campaigns to ensure that road users are more aware of motorcyclists.
Although the scheme was only formally launched at the end of April, interestingly, Stan was asked at his recent insurance renewal whether he’d completed any post-test training. It looks like the word’s already getting out there…
