Richard Rawlins, RIP
One of the leading figures in the Veteran Vespa Club has recently passed away. Classic Scooterist sends its condolences to all Richard’s family and friends. What follows is a statement on behalf of the club:
“It is with great sadness that I have to inform the classic scootering community (especially members of the Vespa movement) about the passing of one of our own.
“Richard Rawlins, a leading light of the Cheltenham Vespa Club from back in the day, Veteran Vespa Club stalwart and Vespa Club of Britain supporter, sadly succumbed to his terminal illness on the afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2022.
“This heavy-hearted news was discovered on our return from the rideout at our recent Veteran Vespa Rally to the Forest of Dean, of which Richard was instrumental in the conception and planning. We were all aware that Richard was not very well, but although he was too ill to ride at the event, such was his determination to be with his Vespa friends and enjoy what he loved, he had every intention of being there in some capacity. This unfortunately didn’t happen as his condition worsened over the previous weeks.
“As such, two friends and fellow VVC members, namely Pete Hanman and Dave Ball, who had continued with the preparation and organisation of the event with Richard’s blessing, dedicated the rally to him, asking that the attending members take him with us in our hearts and minds, as we enjoyed both of the beautiful rideouts that Richard had so meticulously planned for our scootering enjoyment.
“Knowing Richard, his passion for the Vespa movement, genuine eagerness to help out and his love of a good time I’m sure he would have approved of how his event was enjoyed by everyone, bittersweet as that may be.
“Our love, thoughts and condolences go out to his wife Yvonne and family at this most terrible of times.”
Luv and peace
