Back To Bedrock Rally

-

Summer 2021, and club members were discussing rallies when someone said “Why not do our own rally, it can’t be too hard?” And Back to Bedrock was born.

Well, it was hard work but the venue, Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club, was sorted, and we begged and bartered for fencing, stage, PA/sound engineer etc. Finally June 17 came and rallygoers arrived from all over including Guernsey, Wales, the South West, the Midlands and elsewhere. In 30 degrees and glorious sunshine, Friday was opened by Undercover who warmed us up nicely for The Corsairs, who blew everyone away. After the bands, entertainment continued in the clubhouse with Jon and Psychedelic Shack.

Saturday morning came and with it rain. At first it was light as the custom show took place. Notable winners were Gaz and his stunning Lambretta, ‘Tribute’ – Best in Show and Punters’ Choice. Jason from Guernsey won the furthest travelled award – not as he said, ‘best looking scooterist’. A special trophy for Best Mod, in memory of much missed club member, the late

Duncan Evans, had been lovingly crafted by YSSC member Mark Holmes and was awarded to Justin Gingell. The rain became increasingly heavy but it didn’t stop the rideout, despite everyone getting soaked. And it didn’t stop the fun but it did require club members to regularly address the rain pooling on the marquee roof to keep everything going. The Bee Skas opened and rocked us, followed by The Underground Frets, then finally The 5.15, well known by rallygoers and they didn’t disappoint. Again the clubhouse fun went on until the early hours. Last orders got delayed!!

All too soon it was over, time to pack and the hard work of leaving the site as we found it.

Overall a great success. Bedrock 2 in 2023? Maybe....
