3Keys Modernist Weekender

- Joe Tucker

After the old venue changed ownership and the fairly unfriendly response to the weekender from the new management at last year’s event, myself and the 3Keys Collective needed to find a new location, and quick. Luckily, Gary Bangham, who’d been the owner of the Grand Central in Skegness (the first location of the Modernist Weekender before it closed down about five years ago) approached us and asked if we’d like to use his brandnew premises, The Court House, for our 2022 event.

This must have been fate, as the event proved to be successful due (in some part at least) to the friendly staff and quirky new location.

Due to the bank holiday date having to be changed because of the Jubilee celebrations, the fun began on the Thursday night, which was a fairly quiet, but nonetheless enjoyable evening of great music and sharp-dressed folk doing their thang to some great tunes being spun by the guest and resident DJs.

Friday daytime saw the smart contingent entertained by the sounds from the open deck session with DJs playing their chosen lists from within the enclosed courtyard.

Friday night saw the ‘In Crowd’ once again in the main room of The Court House, where the dancefloor was worn away until 2am by the 150 movers and groovers.

Saturday daytime saw a small rideout of around 15 scooters before the afternoon’s open decks sessions entertained the attendees while they chilled out and browsed the vintage stalls (once again within the courtyard) before the dedicated followers of fashion drifted away to prepare themselves for the night to come.

The Saturday night event finale began at 8pm and saw around 200 like-minded souls enjoying themselves to the max as the event’s DJs spun their platters until 2am, only stopping briefly while the award for Best Lambretta was given to Sutty, with Best Vespa going to Marcus Fox.

The event was a great success as the first at the new venue, which has already been booked for next year; and thanks must go out to all the attending faces, the staff and management of The Court House and of course, the DJs playing the tunes that make you wanna move. Big thanks and big respect also go out (in no particular order) to: Howard Timony, Paul Bromley, Andrew Bellamy, Big Tony Stevenson, Marcus Fox, Liam Fernley, Pete Welbourne, Nick Wayne and Lucy Brenan.
