‘Tones Bones’

Ride eternally in peace

-

On Friday, August 12, 2022 after sustaining serious injuries in a road traffic accident, Anthony Lewis, aka ‘Tones Bones’, passed away in Leeds General Infirmary; tragically he’d been doing what he loved the most in life, riding a scooter. Tony’s funeral took place on Wednesday, August 31, and prior to the service around 60-70 scooters gathered outside his home to follow the funeral procession to Pontefract Crematorium. At the crematorium the song Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd played while Tony’s coffin was carried into the service. On top of it were flowers from his family and scooter clubs along with his Looney Tunes SC legshield banner.

Tony was connected with several scooter clubs including Pontefract SC and Featherstone Spartans and was known as one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ who founded the Looney Tunes SC in 2017.

Kenny Foulkes, another member of the Magnificent Seven, said: “Tony was a great fella, we met through the scootering scene in the mid80s. I left the scene for a while and when I started riding again Tony and I reconnected. We spoke just about every day on the phone and it was as if we’d never been apart.”

Not only was Tony a popular scooterist, he was also a trusted scooter mechanic who always made himself available for others to turn to. One of Tony’s many notable scooter builds was Dave Hallaway’s Battle of Britain-themed custom scooter, which featured on the front cover of Scootering magazine in August 2017 and when he wasn’t working on other people’s scooters Tony also helped out at Chiselspeed. Away from scootering, his pastimes included military history and playing the guitar, he also loved his music, Two-Tone, Ska, Heavy Metal and Oi! bands.

Tony had an amazing personality. “It’s fair to say he had no filter, which meant he wasn’t afraid of speaking his mind and he would tell you exactly what he thought. He was extremely funny, he loved to wind people up and when you got to know him you realised that he was one of the most caring and sensitive people you could ever imagine to meet,” added Vicky Hudson.

Generous donations were made by the congregation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the wake followed at the Sloop Inn, Temple Hirst.
