ROLLING WITH RHODZ

-

Every month you ask our resident tyre expert Rhodz, sales manager at Cambrian Tyres (the UK’s largest motorcycle tyre distributor) and dedicated PX rider for his recommendations. This month we talk obscure classics!

Hi Rhodz,

An unusual one as I’m more a fan of obscure classics such as the Mobylette, Motobecane and of course the Honda Cub, which tend to be in 2x17 or 2¼x19 and a few sizes in between. What would you recommend for such machines?

Charlotte, Peterborough

Hi Charlotte

There aren’t many Mobylettes out there being used in anger, but even in semi-retirement they still need rubber. Luckily, Continental comes to the rescue here with the tried and tested KKS10 range, normally available in blackwall or whitewall (for period looks, blackwall would be the popular choice).

The Continental KKS10 is classed as a ‘moped’ tyre in the true sense of the word. By that, I mean true ‘pedal and pop’ machines, not Peugeot Speedfights etc.

This tyre has a classic look with an open block tread for all-round use, making it perfect for show and even weekend riding.

The choice for most of these machines you mention tends to be classic in appearance as the rims would be far too narrow to make a truly modern tread a viable option for most manufacturers. However, if you run 16, 17 or 18in rims, this opens us up to the ContiGo! tyre. Again, this is a light motorcycle tyre but with a modern tread in sizes and construction for mopeds. It has relatively new compounds for great handling both on the street and out on the open road. When we consider the Honda Cub, many of these run the ContiGo!, making it an extremely popular choice for thousands of riders worldwide.

Kind regards,

Rhodz
