GETTING AWAY WITH IT

The Untouchables, 9pm, PBS America IT’S more than four years since the toxic loan crisis, and no senior Wall Street executives have been arrested. Partly, it seems that the FBI have been too busy with antiterrorist activities; partly, it’s due to the difficulty of proving fraud. In any case, the picture this oddly gripping documentary paints of life at one loan company during their ‘heyday’ is terrifying: ‘If they can fog a mirror, we’ll give them a loan.’

LEGAL EAGLES

Training Day, 10.35pm, ITV4 DENZEL WASHINGTON is LAPD cop Alonzo Harris, who gets results, but whose methods are questionable — indeed, downright dirty. Ethan Hawke plays a rookie who questions his methods. Washington’s charismatic antihero is a refreshing change of style.

POLITICAL DRAMA

Boss, 11pm, More4 NEW drama starring Kelsey Grammer as the mayor of Chicago, a ruthless shark oof a man who is diagnosed with a Parkinson’s-like disorder. The pilot is directed by Gus Van Sant and has both style and heft, with a powerhouse performance from Grammer (pictured) at the centre. The story proves itself capable of being darker and more subtly vicious than you would have thought possible — it’s a gangster drama in different clothes, and Grammer is its Tony Soprano.
