ELLIOT LOOKS FOR UNLIKELY CUP DOUBLE

- EWING GRAHAME at Stark’s Park

CALUM ELLIOT may have missed out on cup glory during his time with Hearts, but he is the only Scot to possess a winner’s medal from the Lithuanian Football Federation Cup. He won it last year when his Zalgiris Vilnius side beat holders Ekranas in a penalty shootout, but insists that winning the Ramsdens Cup with Raith Rovers would mean more to him. The 26yearold is looking to party if he can help bring major silverware back to Kirkcaldy for the first time since Jimmy Nicholl’s men won the League Cup in 1994 — following Saturday’s victory over Falkirk. ‘Obviously, it was a great occasion (over there), as all finals are,’ he said. ‘The occasions are big in Lithuania, too. I think a cup final is a big deal in any country, but it’s maybe that wee bit different here, as Scotland is more of a football country. ‘They did a bus parade at the end of the season but I came home straight after the final game, so I missed all the celebrations.’ Although the deadlock wasn’t broken until Greig Spence converted a Jason Thomson cross five minutes from the end, Rovers had enough chances to have wrapped the tie up long before then. Falkirk missed the best chances, however, Philip Roberts and Rory Loy guilty of failing to hit the target from pointblank range. The home side played the better football and now Elliot is anticipating more cup glory. ‘As long as we are focused, we’ll have a great chance of getting into this final, and that’s something you’ll always remember,’ he said. Falkirk manager Gary Holt was unhappy with the way his young side defended Spence’s winner. ‘It was a sloppy goal to lose,’ he said. ‘It was nothing to do with the age of my players either — I would have expected an Under10 side to deal with it.’
