EDITOR IN EYE OF THE STORM
ALAN Rusbridger has been editor of The Guardian since 1995.
His newspaper sparked huge controversy by revealing the thousands of cables obtained by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, which critics claimed put lives at risk by revealing sensitive diplomatic information.
Born in Zambia, Rusbridger, 59, graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in English in 197 .
His career began on the Cambridge Evening News, where he trained as a reporter before joining the Guardian in 1979.
On the Guardian’s own website, he is described as a keen amateur pianist and clarinetist.
