Snails’ fast track to success

-

HAVING taken on the French in the wine-making stakes, British snail producers have their eye on the Gallic market.

Aylesbury Escargot in Bucks has moved its snails from indoor boxes to a 1,000 square metre field so they can increase supplies.

The French chomp their way through 700 million snails a year, but earlier this year there was a national outcry when it was revealed that 90 per cent of the snails on their menus are shipped in from Eastern Europe. One can only imagine what they’ll say at the prospect of the British version. Quelle horreur!
