Watch out, here’s a tram

-

EDINBURGH’S tram system has spent a long time in the slow lane but yesterday it finally began to gather speed.

The network started testing on live tracks between the depot at Gogar and Edinburgh Park Station in Sighthill.

The programme will accelerate over the next few weeks until more than 150 tram journeys a day are being made on the line. Testing will take place until the service begins next May – long overdue and well over budget.

Pedestrians and drivers have been warned to take extra care on the roads at key points where the trams cross.

City of Edinburgh Council transport convener Lesley Hinds said: ‘It will take time for people to get used to seeing trams running on the street and both pedestrians and drivers will need to take extra care while everyone becomes familiar with them.’
