Climate of subterfuge?
ON THE recent UN climate report, David Cameron said: ‘If it were 95 per cent certain that your house would burn down, you would buy the insurance.’
If I were told this by an insurance salesman trying to persuade me to buy a very expensive policy, I’d be suspicious and ask for the report that supported the statement.
The UN climate change committee (IPCC) claims its statements rely on peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals, so I’d expect to be able to see a reference to a statistical analysis justifying the 95 per cent statement in their report. There isn’t one.
The statement was the result of an informal meeting of a group of scientists who were required to make such a statement by the political committee which controls the IPCC.
Would you buy such a policy on the unsupported word of a salesman? I think not.
