Passport to Perth

-

TO date, I haven’t noticed any reference to an independent Scotland i ssuing i ts own passports. If ‘El Presidente’ Salmond gets his wish and Scotland becomes an independent country, will we residents have to give up our UK passports and apply for a Scottish passport, issued by the Scottish Government?

How long will it take for all the countries in the world to accept this new Scottish passport and allow us residents of Scotland to travel worldwide — including to England?

I can’t see any country making a decision to accept a Scottish passport without Scotland f i rst gaining i ts independence, so there would obviously be some considerable time lag before any of us residents would l egally be allowed to travel beyond Hadrian’s Wall.

Although living in Scotland for many years, I’m English, with a UK passport so I would be eligible to travel on my London-issued passport.

But my wife was born in Scotland and holds a UK passport issued in Glasgow — so I assume that I will have to leave her behind when travelling even down to England until such time as she obtains her new Scottish passport.
