Would an independent Scotland risk our security?

-

I AGREE fully with the former Nato director in his statement about the threat that Alex Salmond and his drive for independence will raise not just for Nato but also for America. Choosing the right form of a nation’s defence from attacks by terrorists must be of the utmost importance. Salmond may have some experience as an economist, but none whatsoever in matters of national security nor — alarmingly — does any of his SNP ministers know anything about this vital field. By his promotion of Scotland as an open-door nation, we can expect those engaged in terrorism to make Scotland a safe base from which to carry out acts of terrorism. Everyone in Scotland owes their safety to the vigilance of MI5 and MI6. Under the SNP’s plans for separatism, we shall no longer enjoy such protection. With no Royal Navy, no Royal Air Force and a small Army, defence bases will be prime targets and a haven for terrorists to come to Scotland and attack us from within. Is this the sort of freedom that we would wish for our children? Alex Salmond and the SNP threaten everyone’s future and our national security.

JOHN S. RICHARDSON, Dalgety Bay, Fife. a Man who was once an SnP member and now has the effrontery to wear ermine in the house of Lords, predicts cataclysmic events for nato if Scotland votes Yes. That man is our very own Lord Robertson, whose support for nuclear weapons seems to fly in the face of his pedigree, Labour and Scottish nationalist. We Scots have the opportunity to rid ourselves of some of these threats and let the ‘big boys’ (america/ Russia/China) keep those weapons of mass destruction on their own territories. We shall see if Scotland has the nerve to vote Yes and invest in the welfare of an independent Scottish nation and its citizens.

BOB HARPER, Anstruther, Fife.
