CLASSIC HOLMES The Hound Of The Baskervilles, 3pm, TCM
THE first of the iconic Basil Rathbone series of Sherlock Holmes stories, and a fine adaptation it is, too. Nigel Bruce is his bumbling Watson.
VINTAGE DR WHO Doctor Who, 7pm, Horror Channel
AN UNEARTHLY Child introduced a schoolmasterly William Hartnell as the First Doctor, along with the Tardis. All four parts are showing tonight, and more vintage Who will follow, as Horror will be showing all the episodes up to Sylvester McCoy. There’s a celebration of the more recent end of Who over on Watch, with a new tribute to Matt Smith at 5pm. (Freesat 138, Sky 319, Virgin 149)
MUSICAL CONTEST BBC Young Musician 2014, 7.30pm, BBC4

SUPERHERO MOVIE Man Of Steel, 3.30pm, 8pm, Sky Premiere
A MUCH more ‘epic’ take on the stories of Superman, just as you’d expect from director Zack (300) Snyder and producer Christopher (The Dark Knight) Nolan. Chiseljawed Brit Henry Cavill (pictured) tops the cast as Krypton’s finest.
THRILLER Mammon, 9pm, More4
IT’S refreshing for a conspiracy thriller to have a sense of humour, and this Norwegian series has enough of one that it shows through the subtitles. Vibeke is off to do a little research at NHH in Bergen, but first, she and Peter (Jon Oigarden, pictured) have something to attend to.
NEW U.S. DRAMA Betrayal, 10pm, 5 USA
A 13-EPISODE U.S. adaptation of a Dutch drama about two married people (Stuart Townsend and Hannah Ware) drawn into an affair — only to wind up on opposite sides in a murder trial. It’s a highgloss proposition that tries to do too much with the wrong ingredients, but has a diverting, extended TV movie quality.
U.S. SATIRE Nurse Jackie, 10pm, Sky Atlantic
JOHN CULLUM (Holling from Northern Exposure) appears as a dying man in the season five finale, which all builds towards a ceremony that marks a year of Jackie’s sobriety, and features a reckoning for Dr Roman. It’s a contemplative episode that doesn’t take any big leaps but which opens the door for change in season six.
