How St Paul’s head boy has found love with teacher
NEWS that the deputy head of leading private girls’ school Godolphin and Latymer was forced to resign because of an affair with a former pupil has provoked some knowing looks at St Paul’s School across the Thames.
It can be disclosed that a geography teacher, Lucy Barber, resigned from the South-West London alma mater of Chancellor George Osborne after meeting the son of top barrister Lord Grabiner QC.
She went on to enjoy a passionate affair with the Hon Daniel Grabiner, who is 14 years her junior, after he had also left the school.
Barber, 38, has since married the former pupil of the £21,792-a-year school. She gave birth to their first child, a boy, in December 2012.
While Grabiner, who turns 25 this Thursday, went on to study at Magdalene College, Cambridge, she is said to have won a post as a teacher at another school.
‘When we heard that they were officially together it was quite a scandal as she was a teacher and is so much older,’ a former pupil tells me.
A friend of the Grabiners says: ‘It was a bit of a shock for the family at first, but they’ve got used to it since Dan and Lucy married and had a baby.’
Dan, who now works as a production developer for ITV, is reluctant to discuss how he met his wife.
‘I don’t see why this is a story,’ he tells me.
His sister, Laura Grabiner, also declines to talk about the relationship. His f ather was not available for comment.
A spokesman for St Paul’s says: ‘The pupil left in 2007 and the teacher resigned in 2008 to do a drama course. We are unaware of any allegations being raised at the time.’
