Tragedy of tin

-

SERGEANT Douglas ‘Duggie’ Pomford was a special forces commando hailed as one of the toughest soldiers in World War II. He was awarded the Military Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Africa Star, the Italian Star and the War medal 1939-45, and for 60 years all his gongs were kept in a biscuit tin. His family is now auctioning them for £50,000, saying they hope they will go to someone who’ll ‘appreciate’ them. What a pity for Duggie that his own family didn’t.
