Royal Mail woe

-

ROYAL Mail has warned that the six-day postal service will come under threat unless Ofcom acts to clamp down on competition in the sector.

In a lengthy submission to the regulator, the former state-owned postal service argues that, while rival TNT is able to ‘cherry pick’ lucrative inner-city routes for delivering business post such as bills and bank statements, it is obliged to hand deliver mail to every road in Britain on six days a week.

TNT cuts costs by 40pc because it only delivers on three days a week – making Royal Mail unable to compete on pricing, the group said.
