Nerlinger is set for further Ibrox talks

-

CHRISTIAN Nerlinger will meet Rangers chief executive Graham Wallace for the second time in the coming days to discuss the possibility of him taking on a director-of-football style role at Ibrox. Sportsmail revealed yesterday that the former Rangers player, who spent three injuryhit seasons at Ibrox from 2001, was one of a number of candidates under consideration to fill the position created by Wallace’s 120-day business review. It’s believed Wallace first met Nerlinger in London last week under his own volition. It’s understood, though, that the 41-year-old German — who was a sporting director at Bayern Munich between 2009 and 2012 — impressed during an initial meeting with Wallace and that the Ibrox job is effectively his if he wants it. Wallace flagged up the need for a ‘chief football operations officer’ in the rootand-branch review he published in April. While not specifying who would have the final say over signings, the review said the new role would ‘support the football manager and the board and will concentrate initially on developing player talent identification, scouting and recruitment capability’. Manager Ally McCoist said he would have no issue working within such a structure, provided he had the final say over signings.
