Lana’s Sadness over split from Scots love
SHE is one of the hottest properties on the US music scene and only a few months ago was reported to be engaged to her Scots rocker boyfriend when she was spotted with a ring on her wedding finger.
But Summertime Sadness singer Lana Del Rey has split from ex-Kassidy frontman Barrie-James O’Neill.
The 28-year-old now has new inspiration for her melancholic music after confirming in an interview in Germany that the couple are ‘not together’.
Miss Del Rey dated O’Neill for three years. Last January, she told how her love for the Glaswegian, who grew up in the Yoker area, had inspired her hit Off to the Races.
In April, her Summer Wine video featured O’Neill, who now performs as Nightmare Boy, as her onscreen love interest. Their relationship led to Miss Del Rey developing a love for Scotland. In an interview with Esquire last year, she was asked where her permanent home is. She said: ‘I don’t have one. When I have any time, I go to Glasgow. That’s where I’m happiest.’
But in her latest interview she admitted they have split, saying of her former lover: ‘He is a wonderful person but there are some things with which he must deal. I don’t want to explain that further. It was hard on our relationship. I no longer felt free. We will have to see how it goes from here.’
Only a fortnight ago, the singer said of the relationship: ‘We have a difficult road. He’s a very dark character.’
