KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Marques de Casa Concha Syrah, £9.99 (normally £11.99), Tesco BRILLIANT barbecue wine. A big, meaty red made from the Syrah grape by one of Chile’s smartest producers, Concha Y Toro. There’s black fruits, spice and roasted coffee flavours in here. Just don’t burn the sausages.
WHITE Tukituki Sauvignon Blanc 2013, £7.98, Asda I DRINK more Sauvignon in the summer. Maybe it’s the freshly cut grass/squeezed lemon smells. But not all the cheaper ones are as good as this one. Lively and fresh, with buckets of nettle, lemon and gooseberry flavours. A great party wine.
FOOD PAIRING: Salads, anything with basil. RED McHenry Hohnen Grenache 2013, £14.99, M&S A PERFECT summer lunchtime red when there are lots of dishes on the table. From the Grenache grape in a vineyard on the banks of the Margaret River in Western Australia. I love the freshness and sheer bloomin’ juiciness of the fruit — raspberries, blackcurrants and a sprinkle of spice.
FOOD PAIRING: Sausages, lamb chops, Coronation chicken. ROSÉ Marquesa de la Cruz Garnacha Rosé, £7.99, Waitrose PRETTY pink wine made by a Scotsman in Spain (really). Norrel Robertson crafted it from old bush vine Garnacha grapes in the Campo de Borja region. Deliciously dry but absolutely loaded with redcurrant fruit flavours.
FOOD PAIRING: Green olives.
