SNP’s political ‘panacea’

-

ACCORDING to the SNP, the panacea for all problems in Scotland will be ‘independence’. But as the political party presently in power in the Scottish parliament, surely it must bear the responsibility for the current shortfalls in education standards, health services and other current public issues.

The idea that a vote for independence will act like a magic wand and dispel all the problems facing Scotland today, and in future years, is fanciful.

The SNP determination to break away from the relative security of the UK will merely exasperate the political and economic problems faced in today’s world. It is utterly tiresome to hear statements made by SNP members, in support of their leader, indicating that all will be well if we cast our votes in their favour on September 18 – what balderdash.

Malcolm Rifkind was correct when he warned that Alex Salmond is failing to provide the ‘statesman’ leadership Scotland needs on currency, EU membership and other key issues.

To this I would add that Salmond’s performance in the Scottish parliament at First Minister’s Questions, at noon on Thursdays, serves to confirm that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

It is gratifying to note that the most recent polls from IpsosMORI and YouGov are still indicating 54 per cent intending to vote No in September’s referendum, with support for the Yes down to 36 per cent.

There is no doubt that the aggression emanating from the so- called cybernats does the Nationalist cause no favours; their online abuse appears only to have strengthened the Better Together campaign.
