SOLE STICKS THE BOOT IN
ONE of Scotland’s greatest sporting heroes yesterday branded independence a ‘scary thought’.
David Sole OBE, who led Scotland’s famous victory over England in the rugby Grand Slam decider of 1990 at Murrayfield, voiced his opinion on Twitter ahead of the referendum on September 18.
He wrote ‘4/7 Independence Day in USA 18/9 Independence Day in Scotland? I hope not’, adding the hashtag ‘scarythought’.
Sole was born in England but educated in Perthshire. When contacted, he declined to expand on his Tweet. Tory MSP Alex Johnstone said: ‘David Sole has joined a growing number of people who feel the need to ma k e their voices heard in the face of ludicrous assertions from the Nationalist camp.’ FOUR-FIFTHS of Britain’s top property developers and investors would be ‘less likely’ to invest in an independent Scotland, a survey shows.
Not a single respondent to the study by law firm Nabarro said they would be more likely to invest if there is a Yes vote.
Firms have inserted clauses that allow them to tear up contracts s hould t he nation become independent.
Thousands of jobs in the construction industry and markets such as retail and finance could be lost as a result.
A Scottish Government spokesman said: ‘There has been significant growth in the commercial property market in the past year, as a recent report from Registers of Scotland shows.’
