- By Harriet Sime

FORMER Clyde 1 DJ Suzie McGuire was in bed with another man weeks after splitting with her husband, a court heard yesterday.

Miss McGuire’s estranged husband Derek Mitchell said the mother of four was sleeping with the man in July last year, which he said had ‘hurt’ him.

Mitchell, 35, who faces six charges including breach of the peace, breach of bail and four assault charges, was giving evidence at Paisley Sheriff Court for a third day.

Earlier, the father of two described a ‘hurtful’ time that he said ‘made it very difficult to remain on good terms’ after the split, when he turned up at her home in Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, to drop off their children.

The jury also heard yesterday he slapped a man who compared his wife to singer Susan Boyle to ‘defend his wife’s honour’. Under cross-examination by procurator fiscal depute Amanda Gallagher, he admitted slapping the man.

The court heard he was arrested and pleaded guilty after the incident at a 40th birthday party in

Ayr, in November 2009. Mitchell said: ‘I received an absolute discharge.’

Miss Gallagher told the jury Mitchell was ‘ violent’ and ‘destructive’. She said: ‘Derek Mitchell sees something or hears something that he doesn’t like, Derek Mitchell reacts in a violent or destructive manner to that.’

Mitchell was asked about an alleged incident at Mar Hall Hotel in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, in 2011 when he is accused of assaulting Miss McGuire on two occasions. He said Miss McGuire was drunk while working at the charity event.

Miss Gallagher put it to him that she wasn’t ‘downing bottles of champagne’ at the event. Mitchell said Miss McGuire was ‘drinking a lot while she was working’.

He told the jury: ‘On one occasion I heard Suzie McGuire say “shut the f *** up” to silence a crowd for an auction.’

Mitchell denies the charges and the trial continues.
