- By Maureen Sugden

SHE is the Queen of breakfast TV who first graced our screens 30 years ago.

And in honour of her milestone achievement, Lorraine Kelly was last night given a special Scottish Bafta to mark her outstanding contribution to television.

In a glamorous sparkling gown, a delighted Miss Kelly said she was ‘overwhelmed’.

At the ceremony in Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel, she said: ‘I think I’m the luckiest person in the world. I’ve got the best job in the world. I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it. The 30 years have gone by in an absolute flash.’

The presenter, who lives in Broughty Ferry,

‘I’ve got the best job in the world’

near Dundee, anchors ITV’s morning show Lorraine.

She clocked up her first breakfast appearance in 1984 as the Scotland reporter for TV-am, eventually going on to work on its successor GMTV and later having her own spin-off show.

She also thanked her husband, cameraman Steve Smith, and then dedicated her award to her daughter, Rosie, 20, who is studying journalism.

Miss Kelly, 54, said: ‘I don’t know what I would do without her. She is amazing.’

Other winners at the awards included Scots stars James McAvoy and David Tennant. Hollywood star McAvoy won the Actor Film award for his role in the movie Filth, while former Dr Who Tennant took the Actor Television award for his part in The Escape Artist.

Sophie Kennedy Clark won the Actress Film award for her role in Philomena, while Shirley Henderson scooped the Actress Television gong for her part in Channel 4 drama Southcliffe.

A host of stars strolled the red carpet ahead of the event, including Star Trek and Mission: Impossible star Simon Pegg.

He talked about progress on Mission: Impossible Five, saying: ‘We’re filming it as we speak, I’ve got to go back to work on Tuesday.

‘They actually gave me the day off tomorrow so that I could come up and present this award tonight so thank you Mission: Impossible for that.’

X-Men star McAvoy was there with his wife Anne Marie Duff, posing for selfies with fans and signing autographs on his way up the red carpet.

Jude MacLaverty, director of BAFTA Scotland, said: ‘The British Academy Scotland Awards are a reflection of the massive depth of Scottish talent in film, television, animation and the gaming industry.

‘The breadth of content on display here tonight is truly inspiring and we offer our warmest congratulations to all of our worthy winners.’
