Cosby pulls out of TV chat show after claims he attacked 13 women

- From Tom Leonard in New York

BILL Cosby has cancelled an appearance on the David Letterman show after he faced renewed claims that he drugged and sexually assaulted 13 women.

The actor and comedian, 77, refused to address the allegations in a recent radio interview and has now pulled out of the late-night US chat show.

During the radio programme, Cosby was talking with his wife of 50 years, Camille, about their arts philanthropy on American station NPR.

But when interviewer Scott Simon abruptly changed the subject to ask about the sexual assault allegations, he did not respond but repeatedly shook his head, listeners were told.

Cosby’s lawyer said yesterday that he wouldn’t ‘ dignify’ the ‘ decade- old, discredited’ claims with a response.

Since the first allegations emerged in 2004, the TV star has been accused of sexually assaulting at least 13 women between the 1970s and early 2000s.

Last month one of Cosby’s alleged victims, Barbara Bowman, told MailOnline how he had drugged and raped her several times when she was a young actress in the mid-1980s. She claimed she had woken up at Cosby’s home in a confused, nauseated state to find she was wearing hardly any clothes.

Mrs Bowman, now 47, said she ‘knew my body had been touched without my permission’ but was ‘terrified’ of Cosby and his power in the showbusiness world. Cosby has accused her of being drunk.

The star settled a lawsuit in 2006 that reportedly included 13 accusers, but most details remained secret.

It was brought by a woman named Andrea Constand, who claimed Cosby sexually assaulted her at his home in 2004 after giving her ‘herbal medication’ pills. He maintained that the sex was consensual.

The actor, who made his name starring in long-running TV series The Cosby Show, has always denied the accusations. His lawyer John Schmitt said yesterday that the fact the claims are being repeated does not make them true.
